Abstract

SUMMARY Complement-fixation antigens were prepared from Anaplasma marginale (EAM) and Anaplasma centrale (EAC), of African origin, and compared with A. marginale antigen of U.S. origin (USDA). These antigens have been used to test 55 unknown sera at a 1: 5 dilution and to titrate 37 sera from known A. marginale and A. centrale injections. At 1: 5 serum dilutions, differences between reactions to these 3 antigens are minimal, regardless of whether sera are from A. centrale or A. marginale infections. On serum titrations, significantly higher titres were obtained with the homologous antigen. Undiluted serum from animals with A. centrale as well as A. marginale infectious produced positive agglutination in the capillary tube agglutination test, using A. marginale antigen.
