Abstract
Bacterial agglutination tests with antisera from rabbit and rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) revealed a common antigen(s) in each of the three isolates. Assays with adsorbed antisera from both species indicated that the three isolates belonged to two serological groups with each group having its own unique antigen(s). These similarities with rainbow trout and rabbit antisera indicate that the serotypes of Flexibacter columnaris as defined by rabbit antisera are like those recognized by salmonids. This suggests that these distantly related vertebrates both responded to the same surface antigens of the F. columnaris isolates.
