Abstract
The immunochemical and serological studies of the anti‐A agglutinin of the snail Otala Lactea showed that titer of agglutinin is reduced if the pH is below 4.75 or 10.0 and above. Agglutinin could be precipitated on desalting by dialysis against water and inhibited with N Acetyl‐D‐galactosamine. Tests with enzyme treated cells showed the presence of low titer of anti‐H which could be inhibited with L‐fucose without affecting anti‐A activity. Precipitation with ethanol in the cold suggested that the active protein is optimally precipitated at a 20% ethanol concentration. On the basis of these studies a simplified procedure for the purification of crude snail juice has been presented.
