Abstract
Abstract: Stand-up comedy in France has achieved great success. Clubs are flourishing, and there has been an explosion of recorded performances available on the internet. Stand-up is also the subject of documentaries and shows, including the new French comedy show Standing Up (2022). Unlike their predecessors who performed "one-man" shows with props, today's young, diverse generation of "stand-uppers" is speaking into the microphone about contemporary topics that are socio-politically charged. They are accessible, timely, and engaging, and they deserve our attention as they offer a unique rhetorical form through which our students may explore diverse voices and topics in French.
