Abstract

Depletion of natural resources, renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic (PV) has been highlighted for global energy solution. In the photovoltaic power generation technology, the photovoltaic power control unit essentially requires a high step-up DC-DC converter. The conventional step-up DC-DC converter has a low efficiency and limited step-up ratio. To overcome these problems, we propose a new DC-DC converter topology. In this paper, novel high step-up DC-DC converter using a Tapped-Inductor (TI) and isolated-switched-capacitor is proposed. For high step-up, the TI boost converter and isolated-switched-capacitor outputs are connected in series. Furthermore, it is quite desirable for the cost competition that all the magnetic components are integrated in a single magnetic core. A prototype hardware with 20-40V input voltage, 340V output voltage and 100W output power is implemented in the laboratory to verify performance of the proposed converter.
