Abstract

Series capacitors are usually used in transmission networks to improve voltage quality. Practice has proved that distribution-fixed series capacitors (D-FSC) also play an important role in improving voltage quality and reducing power loss. How D-FSC impacts the voltage profile and power loss in a radical circuit with distributed loads is discussed. The method to determine the configuration of D-FSC considering power loss and voltage deviation through Matlab-based load flow calculation and GA optimization is discussed at the end of the paper.
