Abstract

Abstract In some microprocessor applications it is often useful to provide for serial input and output of alphanumeric data. A design for a particular 16-bit microprocessor is described, and sample programs for serial I/O of either alphanumeric strings or numeric values are discussed. For efficient use of processor time these operations are best performed under interrupt control, since in this case only a very small fraction of terminal printing time is required for executing the appropriate routines.
