Abstract
A 73-year-old man presented to the Gastroenterology Clinic at our institution with iron-deficiency anemia. He denied any weight loss, altered bowel habits, or upper-gastrointestinal symptoms. His anemia was noted to have been present for at least 2 years. He had a history of type 2 diabetes and mild ischemic heart disease. On examination there was evidence of a very large inguinal hernia that extended to the midcalf region. The patient denied any symptoms associated with the hernia and commented that it had been present for more than 20 years.
