Abstract

The sarco(endo)plasmic reticulum calcium ATPase (SERCA) is an ion transporter that creates and maintains intracellular calcium stores. Cellular calcium handling is disrupted in diverse diseases, focusing attention on SERCA as a potential target of future therapeutic strategies. SERCA function is inhibited or stimulated by several membrane micropeptides including endoregulin (ELN), another-regulin (ALN), sarcolipin (SLN), phospholamban (PLB), and dwarf open reading frame (DWORF). We investigated hetero-oligomeric interactions of these micropeptides using automated fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) microscopy.
