Abstract
Electron ionization after direct inlet of permethylated and LiAlH 4-reduced permethylated glycolipids allows a detailed structural interpretation of up to 12-sugar species, including size, sugar sequence and lipophilic components. A 25-sugar glycolipid gave partial information on sequence, with 13 sequences from the non-reducing end and 9 sequences from the ceramide. The specific sequence ions allow an analysis of mixtures, improved by a fractionation into separate species with programmable probe heating.
