Abstract
batch reactor (SBR) technology is an alternative method for treating wastewater. This chapter intends to provide an overall view of SBR technology. SBR has been gaining popularity through the years, mainly because of its single- tank design and ease of automation. The basis of nutrient removal in a SBR is discussed. The efficiency and flexibility of SBR to treat different kinds of effluents such as municipal, domestic, hypersaline, tannery, brewery and dairy wastewater, and land-fill leachates under different operational conditions has been highlighted. Relevant experiments carried out at the laboratory, pilot-scale and industrial scales have been discussed. The role of SBR in aerobic granulation is also highlighted.
