Abstract

Acrylic acid(AA)-methyl methacrylate(MMA) copolymers of varying compositions were prepared in bulk using benzoyl peroxide as an initiator. 13C and 1H NMR spectra of the copolymers were recorded and analyzed. From the observed copolymer composition provided by 1H NMR, reactivity ratios were determined. The compositional triad sequences were determined by using carbonyl and α-methyl resonances. The experimentally determined triad concentrations showed good agreement with theoretical distribution, calculated using Bernoullian statistics and Harwood’s program, as the copolymers were random in nature.
