Abstract
Human genomic clones containing the promoter-regulatory region of the LDH-A gene were isolated and characterized. The sequence of 6,166 nucleotides from the human LDH-A gene was determined and compared with the promoter-regulatory sequence of the mouse LDH-A gene (Fukasawa KM and Li SSL, Genetics 116: 99-105, 1987). The Camp-reponive element, Sp1 transcription factor binding GC-box, somatic exon a and testicu-lar exon 0 of 5’ noncoding region of the human and mouse LDH-A genes were identified. In the human sequence, dimeric and monomeric Alu-repeats in tandem were found to exhibit 87% and 76% homology, respectively, with the consen Alu-sequence. These Alu-sequences are located 2 Kb 5’ from the transcription initation site of the human LDH-A gene.
