Abstract

<i>Major Problems in Obstetrics and Gynecology</i>is a series of monographs, edited by Emanuel A. Friedman, MD, and published by the WB Saunders Co, designed to explore in-depth specific problems in these related disciplines, and to offer reviews of the most complete and up-to-date information available on topics in the study of human reproduction and of the female reproductive system. Volume 2 in the series is<i>Septic Shock in Obstetrics and Gynecology</i>, by Drs Cavanagh, Rao, and Comas. These investigators wrote this monograph while members of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, St Louis University School of Medicine. The monograph summarizes the results of a long-standing research interest and clinical effort in this area. Although the frequency of septic shock in obstetrics and gynecology has diminished over the past several years, Gram-negative sepsis continues to be a very serious problem for the practicing obstetrician-gynecologist.
