Abstract

Septic arthritis of the facet joint, with osteomyelitis of the posterior elements of the spine, is a rare condition. Associated epidural abscess formation has been described in a limited number of case reports [1–4]. This report describes a case of septic arthritis of a lumbar facet joint complicated by psoas, epidural, pelvic and gluteal abscesses, and the role of percutaneous abscess drainage in the management of the patient.
