Abstract

Polarization analysis of the nonresonant magnetic x-ray scattering from the simple type-IA double-k antiferromagnet uranium arsenide has provided an experimental verification of the nonresonant magnetic x-ray cross section and has shown the dominance of the orbital contribution to the magnetization density. The measured value for the ratio of the orbital to the spin contributions is in reasonable agreement with the free-ion value for a ${5\mathrm{f}}^{3}$ configuration.
