Abstract

A chelating ion-exchange resin containing nitrogen and oxygen donor atoms has been prepared and characterised. The sorption characteristics of a number of metal ions, viz., copper(II), zinc(II), nickel(II), palladium(II), cobalt(II), cadmium(II), manganese(II), lead(II) and iron(II), have been studied over the pH range 1.50–10.00. The resin behaves as a selective chelating ion exchanger for some metal ions. The effect of various electrolytes at different ionic strengths and also of the particle size of the resin on the distribution coefficient values of some metal ions has been observed.
