Abstract

A method of quantitative separation of radiochemically pure neptunium-239 from neutron irradiated uranium samples is developed using reversed-phase partition chromatography. TBP adsorbed on hydrophobic kieselguhr is used as stationary phase, HNO 3 of various concentrations, as the mobile phase. Neptunium is selectively reduced in the column from the VI to V oxidation state. The behaviour of some fission products creating special difficulties in the separation process was investigated, as well as the neptunium yield.
