Abstract

The processes of separation in a vertical air stream are affected by the characteristics of the particles, the air velocity, and the speed and the direction of injection into the air stream. A mathematical model of particle motion was solved numerically to simulate the paths of grain and straw particles in an air stream. The separation of grain and straw is examined and the effect of the direction of injection is discussed. A method is proposed for examining the feasibility of achieving a separation based on the suspension velocity of the particles.
