Abstract

In the present investigation, flotation experiments were carried out to recover the carbon values from a gas cleaning plant sludge generated from the blast furnace. Statistically designed experiments were conducted to evaluate the individual parameters and their interactional effects on the separation performance of flotation while recovering carbon from gas cleaning plant sludge of blast furnace. The influence of collector dosage, frother dosage, and feed pulp density was analyzed for the separation of carbon particles from the sludge. Also, the optimized process conditions for the studied variables were fixed to achieve the optimum separation performance. It is concluded that a froth product of 35% ash value at a yield of 20.7% is produced from the feed sludge analyzed 71.8% ash at optimum conditions of the flotation process. The optimized process can be adopted to treat this type of gas cleaning sludge for the recovery of carbon values.
