Abstract
Background: The Austrian Institutes of Pathology have established common guidelines for the processing of sentinel lymph nodes (SNs). These guidelines as well as the results obtained by the eight institutes of pathology co-operating with the Austrian SN study group are presented and compared with the methods and results of other groups. First approximations of the workload are documented.
