Abstract

Abstract In his investigation of “double nominative”; constructions in Chinese, Teng (1974) argues for a non‐transformational analysis which would treat some predicates as “entire sentences.”; Park (1973) comes to a similar, though not identical, conclusion concerning “multiple subject”; constructions in Korean. This paper examines the claims made by both Teng and Park, discusses the discrepancies in their arguments, and proposes a systematic account of their evidence in terms of a sentential predicate analysis. Background for the sentential predicate hypothesis is presented in the introduction.
