Abstract

Mechanoreceptors and chemoreceptors are found primarily at 8 distinct locations in the venom apparatus of Paraponera clavata . Receptors are in the form variously arranged sensilla campaniformia, placodea, trichodea and basiconica and apparently function in sting manipulation and detection of a victim.
