Abstract

The threshold of hearing in patients with otosclerosis was compared with the hearing threshold in a standard population. The hearing threshold in the patients with otosclerosis was determined by means of measurements with bone conduction telephone and the results were corrected in relation to the improvement in the bone conduction threshold that took place after successful stapedectomy. The result of these comparisons indicates that otosclerosis leads to an increased perceptive hearing loss in women. This was not true for men. On the other hand otosclerosis seems to offer protection against noise injury. A comparison of air conduction audiograms of patients with otosclerosis who underwent stapedectomy and satisfied special conditions for hearing improvement with the hearing threshold in a standard population seems to indicate that otosclerosis leads to increased perceptive loss of hearing in both sexes.Horeterskelen hos patienter med otosclerose er sammenlignet med horeterskelen i en standard befolkning. ...
