Abstract
Modern sensors should provide output signals that are compatible with microelectronic systems, they should require minimal circuit complexity when used in microprocessors systems and should be exchangeable as an anonymous unit. The sensor discussed in this paper complies with all of these requirements. It is based on proven strain-gauge technology and can measure both orthogonal components of a two-dimensional (2-D) displacement or force vector with high accuracy. Integrated electronics eliminate both systematic errors and manufacturing tolerances.
