Abstract
In order to comply with the future requirements for enhanced pedestrian protection, the automotive industry will have to consider active protection systems that, for example, involve raising the bonnet in the event of an impact. Such systems will require sensors to detect an accident with a pedestrian. In this context, the Institute for Automotive Engineering (IFT) at Trier University of Applied Sciences has evaluated Kinotex sensors that were originally developed for use in space.
