Abstract

Since the publication of the paper of Lamb, Jones, and Maxwell 1 on solar dermatitis there have been inquiries in regard to the case reported whose colored photographs showed severe erythema perstans from fluorescent lighting and to the possibility that blue-light sensitivity might account for some of those cases of polymorphic light eruptions which do not seem to improve with use of the antimalarials. McNairy 2 queried how to proceed with an erythematous type of polymorphic lightsensitive eruption in an 18-year-old girl, a rather severe asthmatic who was being maintained with 15 mg. prednisone (Meticorten). When she was first seen she exhibited a cutaneous sun reaction of one year's duration. The reaction consisted of an erythema which appeared on all exposed areas within a minute of even the briefest sun exposure. Five seconds would produce a reaction.
