Abstract

This paper presents sensitivity studies carried out for electromagnetic and NVH analysis of an 8-pole, Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM), Electric Vehicle (EV) traction motor. Options to simulate deformations in the motor resulting from mechanical coupling to the drivetrain are discussed and optimal methodology presented. SIMULIA Opera (electromagnetic) and Romax Evolve (mechanical/NVH) simulations couple the physics to determine their interaction. Static rotor tilt and dynamic tooth rocking are used as examples to illustrate the accuracy of the techniques, which eliminate any mesh-related spurious responses.
