Abstract

This paper addresses the computation of the sensitivities of power system operating objective and constraints with respect to the system control variables. An efficient method for sensitivity computation is presented. The sparsity properties of the vectors and matrices involved in the sensitivity computations are discussed with the aid of an example and exploited in the development of the algorithms so as to make them efficient for large interconnected power systems. Two alterations of the method for approximate sensitivity computations based on different approximations of the power flow Jacobian are also presented. Test results with an example five-bus system and the 283-bus system of the Greek Public Power Corporation are presented.
