Abstract

With many advantages of protecting reservoir, increasing drilling speed and high capacity in carrying cuttings, foam drilling is suitable for drilling through the aquifer and natural fractured formation, and has been developed fast since 1990s. However, the change of the foam physical properties along wellbore, and the flowing state of the foam in the annulus is complex. Therefore, it is difficult to optimize the design of hydraulic parameters for foam drilling. In order to solve this problem, the mathematical model for foam-cutting flowing in annulus has been developed. In addition, the sensitivity analysis has been conducted about the factors affecting the parameters of foam drilling and the characteristics of foam flowing. The analyzing results can provide the foundation for designing the hydraulic parameters of foam drilling.
