Abstract

We propose a new design of a highly birefringent photonic crystal fiber (HBPCF) via infiltration of two holes adjacent to the core of the fiber with two different liquids. As the refractive index of liquids is sensitive to temperature variations, the proposed HBPCF can be used in a Sagnac interferometer as a highly sensitive temperature sensor. The proposed HBPCF can show birefringence of $4 \times 10$ and birefringence sensitivity of 25% for a 5○c temperature variation around 25○c which corresponds to a sensitivity of around 10 nm/○c.
