Abstract

Minimum spouting velocity (ums) varies with the geometry of a Spouted Bed (SB) contactor and the gas-solid properties. The angle of repose (θr), being an important bulk property of the solid granules, is found to play a critical role causing the variation of ums with a change in contactor angle (γc). A systematic experimental study was conducted considering three different types of solid particles having significantly different θr (25°, 36° & 45°) and three different γc (28°, 45° & 60°) for three different gas inlet diameters, to evaluate Ums and bed pressure drop (ΔPb). The variation of Ums is correlated with (tan γc/2) and it is found to have three distinct zones for different θr for which exponent over (tan γc/2), Ɛ, is highly affected making a significant change in ums.
