Abstract
A Magneto-Impedance (MI) effect which exhibited the strong dependence of impedance on external magnetic field was found in amorphous wire by Mohri et.al. fifteen years ago. The magneto-impedance (MI) sensors were developed as a new magnetic field detection principle and achieved to magnetic sensors and strain sensors with high performance. In this review, we describe the layered thin film MI elements and the high resolution sensing of magnetic field and strain utilizing them.
