Abstract

Senior High School Program prepares students for college by providing them with the skills, competencies, and knowledge they need to succeed in areas that match their strengths, passions, and abilities. Selecting a degree program that corresponds to their learning strand is perceived as a tool for achieving high learning outcomes in college. Using the descriptive-correlational method, the study investigated the association between the Senior High School Learning Strand and the General Weighted Average in a State University of the Philippines. The respondents are the two hundred fifty-six third-year college students who attended Senior High School and are studying Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, Bachelor of Industrial Technology, Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Mathematics, Bachelor of Elementary Education, and Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education Majorin Home Economics. The majority of respondents came from the Technical Vocational Livelihood Strand (TVL), implying that Filipinos place higher importance on education than on employment. Furthermore, the study found that the Senior High School Learning Strand has a significant impact on the students' Grade Point Average. Most of the respondent’s grades are interpreted very good. This means that the Senior High School Learning Strand is a profound preparation for tertiary education. It is recommended that new standards be established in the admission policies in which the Senior High School Learning Strands are given significance.
