Abstract

This study sought to provide basic data needed to predict and analyze retro fashion trends by investigating senior fashion styles designed based on retro trends through middle-aged actresses’ fashion styles in TV series. It targets to contribute to the improvement and development of middle-aged women’s fashion styles. For this, Jang Mi-hui from the KBS TV series ‘Marry Me Now’ (2019) and Cha Hwa-yeon from ‘My Only One’ (2019) were examined. According to analysis of retro senior fashion styles through the above middle-aged actresses, Jang Mi-hui had the nobility of a CEO, carrying refined, elegant and gorgeous fashion styles. In contrast, Cha Hwa-yeon from ‘My Only One’ had cute, lovely and romantic fashion styles as an adorable older woman. Such middle-aged actresses’ fashion styles in TV series imply a story and reflect contemporary trends. They also create fads by stimulating the public’s desire to imitate, which has a significant influence on society. The study results confirmed that TV has played a key role in setting trends through cultural icons and contents, rather than just stimulating TV audience visually.
