Abstract

Geothermal activity may lead to convection currents in groundwater. Such currents considerably affect transport phenomena in the aquifer. In this study, the applicability of a seminumerical approach for the simulation of flow conditions in such an aquifer is presented. Flow field variables are expanded through truncated sets of eigenfunctions, which leads to a system of general first-order differential equations that can be solved by applying available subroutines. Criteria of flow field stability, parameters affecting flow conditions, and quantitative analysis of transport processes in the aquifer are studied.
