Abstract

In this serie of lectures we present some of the basic issues in semiconductor spintronics at an introductory level. We start with a short overview of low dimensional semiconductor structures and their applications. We then move on to discuss the notions of spin generation, injection, relaxation and detection in spintronics, with an emphasis in the application of diluted magnetic semiconductors for spin generation and injection. Finally, we discuss the manipulation of spin in semiconductor nanostructures like quantum dots, and its applications in quantum computation.
