Semiclassical approach to Landau levels and Landau level degeneracy using canonical transformations in classical mechanics

Abstract

We use the method of canonical transformations in classical mechanics to investigate the relationship between the classical and quantum dynamics of a charged particle in a uniform magnetic field. A simple application of Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rules leads to a full description of the energy spectrum.
