Abstract

We propose and present a semi-analytical model to study the interaction between surface plasmon polaritons generated by phase-matching structures in corrugated dielectric/metal interfaces. The proposed semi-analytical model calculates surface plasmon polariton dynamics that agree well with that found from the full-field vectorial finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulations. The proposed model takes almost no computational time in comparison with FDTD simulations. Therefore, the proposed model can be used instead of FDTD simulations to design and engineer sub-wavelength structures to enhance light confinement. In particular, the proposed model can save significant amount of time to efficiently predict the optimal structural parameters to achieve resonant absorption in metal/dielectric interface of a thin-film solar cell.
