Abstract

In this paper, a modified inverse dynamic model for magnetorheological (MR) dampers has been proposed and integrated into a new semi-active control strategy. This new control strategy can be utilized to identify the revolutionary variable of Bouc-Wen model which is used to simulate the nonlinear behavior of MR dampers. In this way, the voltage can be adjusted to command MR dampers to track the optimal/desired damper force derived from linear quadratic regulator (LQR) method, through feedback control. The vibration control of Single Degree of Freedom (SDOF) systems, e.g., the one-story building, is studied here. The performances of the MR damper under White Gaussian Noise (WGN) and differently scaled earthquakes will be analyzed and compared.
