Abstract

Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) possess two major qualities: mobility and wireless connectivity. The deployment of WLAN infrastructure can be hindered by various transmission impairments specific to the planning and organisation of the radio channels used. In this paper, we propose a new semi-empirical method for calculating the signal attenuation in indoor wireless networks. This method is intended to help in providing optimal deployment solutions with a minimal path loss with various types of obstacles. The empirical method is validated by a simulation tool. The comparison of the results obtained using the simulator against the experimental results shows that they are in good agreement.
