Abstract

The article is devoted to a comparative-contrastive study of the structural and semantic features of the vertical line of blood relationship (consanguinity) terms отец (Russian), padre (Spanish), oтa (Uzb.), representing the national, cultural and linguistic specificity. Their study led to the conclusion that they are used both in direct and figurative meanings. The conducted analysis indicates some regularities of these terms: men in the descending line use them when referring to older men in age, to the spiritual father, and the women — to their husbands in the meaning of «father of my children». In the Uzbek language, oтa is used not only when referring to one’s own father, but also to one’s paternal grandfather; in Spanish — along with padre, its synonym progenitor «parent» is used to refer to the father.
