Abstract

The emergence of self-study inquiry practices requires a new conception of research and scholarship for researchers in teacher education generally and theater education, specifically. Lieberman (1992) introduced such a concept, “scholarly activity” which captures the contradictory elements of self-study of inquiry practices by marrying the idea of using systematic, critical, and empirical examination to develop knowledge with an imperative to act to produce real rather than only theoretical effects.
