Abstract

Additive pulse mode-locking (APM) has been a powerful technique for femtosecond pulse generation in solid state lasers.1 Recently, APM was found to be self-starting in a Ti: Al2O3 laser.2 Motivated by this discovery we have developed a cw passively mode locked Nd:glass laser using a nonlinear external cavity. The laser generates stable subpicosecond pulses of 850 fs duration.
