Abstract

Self-similar soliton-like solution of a kind of coupled higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation with variable coefficients describing the optical soliton pulses propagating in inhomogeneous optical fiber media is investigated in this paper. The balance principle and the F-expansion technique are used to obtain the exact bright and dark self-similar soliton-like solutions analytically. As an example, we present a periodic distributed amplification system to investigate the pulse evolution characteristics by using the split-step Fourier method and the Runge–Kutta method. It is found that the self-similar soliton-like optical pulses can propagate stably in the given coupled system.
