Abstract

In this study, engineered cementitious composites (ECC), a typical high ductility cementitious composite (HDCC), was used for orthotropic steel deck surfacing using wet-bonding technology. Light-burned magnesia oxide (MgO) and superabsorbent polymer (SAP) were added to ECC to enhance its self-healing property and to improve the bonding quality of interface between ECC and steel deck. The effect of light-burned MgO and SAP on the self-healing property of ECC and bonding property of interface between ECC and steel deck was evaluated by permeability test, single shear test, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The test results show that the self-healing of ECC is accelerated by adding light-burned MgO and SAP. This also reduces the microdefects of interface and improves the bonding property of steel-ECC interface. Moreover, the ductility characteristics of ECC can be ensured.
