Abstract

We have analytically and numerically investigated the propagation of three-dimensional self-decelerating Airy–elegant-Hermite–Gaussian (AiEHG) and Airy–helical-elegant-Hermite–Gaussian (AiHEHG) wave packets in free space. We find that AiEHG and AiHEHG wave packets will self-decelerate along the time domain during propagation. Furthermore, their intensity profiles are determined by the mode numbers m and n and the propagation distance. It is worth mentioning that the topological charges of the vortex of AiHEHG wave packets will change in propagation, which will change to one when the mode number m is odd but two when the mode number m is even.
