Abstract

The self-consistent cranking (SCC) model is improved for high-spin states by the addition of random-phase approximation (RPA) correlations along the yrast line. The SCC+RPA method provides information on excited rotational bands as well as the yrast band. Another way to describe excited quasiparticle bands is by means of a SCC calculation with blocking. Effects of quasiparticle alignment, Coriolis antipairing, backbending, gapless superconductivity and pairing vibrations are all included at once. Addition of the RPA is expected to improve the shape of the backbending curves, provides a description of pairing rotation and vibration at high spin, and permits calculation of transition probabilities at high spin.
