Abstract

A method for measuring rotational line half-widths for the Lorentzian line shape and a slit function described by three Gaussian curves has been applied to lines in the CO fundamental. This technique uses apparent line-center transmission measurements to determine half-widths of pressure-broadened absorption lines. The half-widths of 12 lines on the R-branch of the CO fundamental were measured and found to compare well with two previous measurements. The half-widths derived from measurements of absorption in troughs between several lines were found to be about 30 per cent greater than the half-widths measured near the line centers.
