Abstract

A 2D infinite sandwich-like framework [Cd2Cl2•(bfpf)•(bbp)2] •(H2O)]n 1 (H2bfpf = bis- (3- formyl-propionyloxyate)ferrocene, bbp = 4,4′-trimethylene-dipyridine) with porous structure was arranged by combining d10 Cd2+ ions with mixed flexible ligands bpp and disodium bis- (3- formyl -propionyloxyate)ferrocene. The third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of 1 were investigated via Z-scan techniques under an open aperture configuration. The nonlinear absorptive index a2 is calculated to be 1.5 × 10−10 m·W−1 for a 4.6 × 10−4 M solution in DMF, and the effective third-order NLO susceptibility χ(3) obtained is 5.0 × 10−11 esu; hence, this complex is a promising candidate for NLO devices.
